Add a free food cost calculator to your website
A small food cost and GP calculator you can put on any page: a catering college course page, a supplier blog, a food-truck resource list or your own site. Choose a size and a colour scheme, copy one snippet, paste it into your page. It is free, there is no sign-up, and it sets no cookies.
1. Choose how it looks
2. Copy the code
Paste it wherever your site takes HTML: a "Custom HTML" block in WordPress, an "Embed" block in Squarespace or Wix, or straight into the page template. The height is set for the size you chose; if your theme adds padding, add 40 to the height number.
Sizes at a glance
| Size | Width | Height | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compact | 360 px | 760 px | Sidebars, narrow columns and mobile-first pages |
| Standard | up to 540 px | 680 px | The body of a blog post or course page |
| Full width | 100% of the column | 640 px | A page given over to the calculator |
What it does
- Adds up ingredient costs for one portion.
- Works out food cost % and gross profit % from the menu price, taking the 20% VAT out first if the price includes it.
- Shows the price you need to hit a target GP, with and without VAT.
It uses the same arithmetic as the full food cost calculator and the UK GP benchmarks. For whole recipes, see the recipe cost calculator and the menu price calculator; ingredient trim is covered by the yield chart.
The small print
- Free to use on any site, commercial or not.
- Please keep the "Powered by ChefSums" bar inside the widget and the one-line credit under it. The credit is a plain brand link marked
nofollow, so it will not cause problems with search engines for your site. - No cookies, no tracking scripts and no adverts inside the frame. Nothing typed into it leaves the visitor's browser.
